Rangers Exit Playoffs with a Whimper

October 5, 2012 by DSN Leave a Comment

In a season that began with a hot streak that had fans seeing the third World Series on the horizon, the Texas Rangers ended the 2012 Season with a whimper with a 1-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The game was a microcosm of the end of the season, the Rangers were declining after holding a 5 game lead with 9 games to play for the AL West crown and then finished in 2nd just barely making the playoffs, while the Orioles where battling the Yankees for AL East lead and came charging into the Playoffs.  Much like the A’s, many a Rangers fan did not give the O’s the respect a playoff team deserves.

The Orioles took the lead in the first after Nate McLouth reached first on an error and then stole 2nd and was finally hit home by Hardy. While Yu Darvish’s  fastball wasn’t sharp he was able to battle back and find his groove.

The Rangers also started the game hot on offense with both Kinsler and Andrus getting a hit with their first at bats, and Kinsler was able to get to third on Andrus hit.  When Josh Hamilton got to the plate, he was able to put the ball in play to score Kinsler, yet grounded into a double play.

From this point on both of the pitchers battled but in the end Sauders got the win, Yu got the loss with only 2 earned, 1 unearned, and the Rangers weren’t able to put together any offense until the bottom of the 9th when Cruz got a single after Beltre popped out, Young grounded out and the Rangers were down to there last out. Napoli battled the count to full and was then able to draw a walk.  Next up the teenage Profar pinched hit and got a single on the first pitch to load the bases.  However with the bases loaded, Dave Murphy came to the plate, but could only muster a pop fly t end the game and give the O’s a 5-1 victory. Thus ended the Rangers season with offense little resembling the team that started off hot and in which the Rangers beat the O’s 3 out of 4 games in May and had double digit runs in 2 of those games.  Its now time for the Rangers to rest up for 2013.
