Holland Holds the Angels to 7 and Captures the Win

September 30, 2012 by DSN Leave a Comment

After battling back from giving up a 4 run first, Derek Holland was able to pitch 6 2/3 innings and came away with a win even though he gave up 7 runs. Holland was able to get the win because of the offense explosion with Mike Napoli having a 2 home run, 3 hit game.Mike Napoli always has delivered big games when he plays his ex-team, and make Mike Scioscia regret trading him before the 2011 season. Today was more of the same with Napoli having 6 RBIs.

The second game of Sunday’s double header was all about about redemption whether from Holland battling back  throughout the game to Nathan coming into the 9th and shutting the door to the game, which he was not able to do in the afternoon game.

Tonight’s win was important for 2 reasons, 1) the Rangers maintained a 1 game lead over the Yankees and Orioles for the best record in the AL and 2) the Rangers clinched a playoff spot, but now they need a win against the A’s to clinch the AL West.

Tonight’s win may have come at a cost, during the 7th Adrian Beltre had to be replaced after stretching to catch a Mark Trumbo single. Michael Young was not available to replace Beltre because he was replaced by Profar to start the inning, so Mike Olt came in to replace Beltre. Beltre has been struggling with abdomen pains from scar tissue and possibly shoulder problems.  Hopefully, Beltre was removed for precaution and he will hopefully be able to play until the Rangers clinch the AL West.
