The offseason focus for the Dallas Cowboys Offense was to solidify the line, however over the first 3 games that area has been the teams weakness. If it was not for the mobility of QB Tony Romo and his well-timed spins, the Cowboys may be on QB 2.
The Cowboys attempted to solidify the line by flipping Tyron Smith to LT and Doug Free to RT and adding guards Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernaeau, but during training camp, all of the pieces never had a chance to gel because of various injuries.
In the first week, the line lost its center Phil Kosta to a back injury and newly acquired center Ryan Cook took over and thus continued the lack of line continuity that took place during all of training camp.
In the game against the Buccaneers, the line continued its rash of false starts and Doug Free seemed to be over-powered and nearly got Romo injured while being susceptible to the bull rush of DE Michael Bennett.
Because of the sacks, Tony Romo loss two fumbles and was forced to make many hurried throws. And now the Cowboys must work to continue to solidify the line and needs to possibly look to add another tackle. If Smith or Free are injured the only true OT reserve is Jermey Parnell, and he hasn’t seen significant playing times or starts.
The Cowboys most focus on the line, for as the foundation of the offense both passing and running game gain their strength from the line.
